Since the closure of the original play area, council officers have been working on the development of a new play park at Coate Water.  The new play park will be located next to the Coate Water Splash park, which offers easy access for visitors, whether walking or driving into the park.

The play park will be part of more than £400,000 worth of improvements being made to the park over the next few years.

The Council now wants the views of park users and families about what kind of play equipment they would like to see in the new play park.  The Council has made a commitment to offer an inclusive and diverse range of play equipment to make the play area accessible to as many children as possible.

Councillor Robert Jandy, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Heritage, Leisure and Town Centre Experience, said: “It’s great that we’re making progress on the new play area and we can’t wait to see what residents think should be included.

“I’d urge everyone, from across the town, to take a look at our consultation boards and then offer their thoughts.

“We want to make this play area as inclusive as possible but we need your input to help make that happen.”

The new play park consultation is primarily online but officers and Cllr Jandy will be at Coate Water tomorrow (August 18, 11am-3pm) to get residents’ views in person.

Online access to the consultation will be available from 9am on 18 August and can be found here: https://www.swindon.gov.uk/coatewaterconsultation

The consultation will run until 11.59pm on Friday, 3 September.
