Short Breaks service restarts as new provider takes over
Swindon Borough Council’s Short Breaks service has officially restarted following the recent appointment of new providers.

In July it was announced that the service, based at Shaw Ridge and formerly run by Hop Skip and Jump, had been taken over by The Brunel SEN MAT, in partnership with UET (Uplands Enterprise Trust), following a competitive procurement process.
The Council, in partnership with the new providers, is happy to announce that the service has now relaunched and will continue to help children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
Details about the range of short breaks and activities offered are now available through the Council’s Local Offer web site.
The service offers a variety of activities for children and young people to take part in, with indoor and outdoor play facilities with an emphasis on self-development and discovery.
There are sensory rooms, soft play facilities and art rooms that the children can enjoy while their parents receive a break from their caring responsibilities and spend time with their wider family members.
Councillor Mary Martin, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “After a difficult period for the Short Breaks service, it’s wonderful to see it back up and running under the stewardship of the Brunel SEN MAT and UET.
“The centre provides stimulating activities and emotional support to children with special needs and I am confident that, with BSM and UET Leadership, and with close support from the Council, it has a bright future ahead.”
