Lucky charms at the ready as Community Lottery first draw takes place this weekend

The first draw for the Swindon Community Lottery will take place this Saturday (14 Dec), and residents in Swindon have been reminded that they’ve got to be in it to win it.

Swindon Borough Council is among the first few local authorities in the country to launch its own online community lottery to support local good causes.

The aim is to make sure that community groups and local charities can continue to receive financial support well into the future, and setting up a lottery will help to raise money to continue to fund a host of different projects.

Since its launch in September, 68 good causes in Swindon have signed up and 967 tickets have been sold. Enough tickets have already been sold to contribute over £30,000 a year to good causes in Swindon.

The online lottery is easy to sign up to and buy tickets.

Tickets cost £1 with 60p going towards local good causes, compared to just 28p in the pound for the National Lottery. The rest of the money goes towards the prize money, management costs, and VAT.

The winners will be informed via email and will have the money transferred automatically to their chosen bank account. Players are able to set up a monthly payment in advance with the option to do a three, six or 12-month repeating subscription by direct debit or payment card.

The second draw will take place the following week, on Saturday, 21 December, and weekly thereafter.

The weekly jackpot is £25,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers. Other prizes will be £2,000, £250, £25 or three free tickets for the next draw.
