This year’s Swindon Education Excellence Awards, which are organised by Swindon Borough Council, will see 66 awards given out to teachers and schools across Swindon.
The awards celebrate the dedication and hard work of teachers and highlight best practice in a number of schools.
The ceremony will be held on Thursday (18 July) in the Great Western Hall at STEAM and promises to the biggest and best one yet.
Swindon Mayor, Cllr Kevin Parry, and Swindon Borough Council Leader Cllr David Renard will be on hand to present some of the awards and they will be joined by James Phipps, Executive Chairman of Excalibur, who are the main sponsors of the event. The awards are also being sponsored by Pertemps, Swindon Tuition Centre and Business West.
Lawn Manor Academy’s rock band Freight Train, will open proceedings and those attending will also be entertained by the 50-pupil strong Oaktree Nursery and Primary School choir.
The awards have been split into a number of categories with 15 individual teachers receiving Teacher Excellence Awards. A number of schools will also receive awards in recognition of pupil progress, good practice within schools, school achievement, school support and a category designed for staff who have made a special contribution to education in Swindon.
The TeachFirst Teacher of the Year Award will also be announced along with a number of Healthy Schools awards.
Cllr Renard said: “Our teachers do amazing work throughout the year so it is absolutely right we recognise their achievements and publically thank them for their efforts in helping Swindon pupils reach their potential.
“The Excellence Awards are going from strength to strength and I would like to thank all of our sponsors for supporting us so we can organise this wonderful celebration.
“I hope the awards help inspire our teachers and schools to keep going the extra mile and to put educational excellence at the heart of everything they do.”
