People of all ages can take part in the new Stanley the Spider trail around the museum and a host of different activity sessions that will keep the youngsters entertained for hours.
The popular Brand the World games are back on Thursday, 25 October and will give children the chance to brand their own colourful object.
Joanna Arnott, Learning Manager at STEAM, said: “This half term activity session is inspired by our three new exhibitions this year, celebrating the wonderful advertising, publicity materials and merchandise produced by the Great Western Railway.
“We also have our autumnal-themed Stanley the Spider trail that adds a little something extra for families as they travel around the museum.
“Also, on 3 November, between 10am and 4pm, our Meet the Railway Workers volunteers will welcome everyone aboard some of our prize locomotives. Our volunteers have lots of fascinating GWR facts to share and will even show you the controls of these great engines.”
Children will receive a special GWR certificate when they successfully change the points in STEAM’s GWR signal box at the Meet the Railway Workers event.
Councillor Dale Heenan, Swindon Borough Council Cabinet Member responsible for STEAM, said: “If you want to find something for the family to do this October half-term that’s fun and educational, then now is the perfect time for visiting STEAM.
“The museum has many newly furnished children’s play areas, so there is plenty to keep little ones busy. And don't forget, STEAM is just one minute away from the Outlet Centre, so you can combine shopping with activity time."
The drop-in sessions on 25 October cost £1.50 per child in addition to standard and STEAM season ticket admission. They take place at the STEAM Exploration Station, located on STEAM’s recreated 1930s Station Platform. The sessions run from 10am to 12noon and from 1pm to 3pm.
