In Ashley Close in Walcot, work to build three new three-bedroom homes is nearly complete. It is expected the properties will be available for tenants to move in to in two months’ time.

Meanwhile, in Ventnor Close in Moredon, eight two-bedroom homes are being built. Construction is well underway with the first timber frame now up, while the parking area is now completed.

Each home is designed with accessibility and sustainability in mind, addressing a shortage of adaptable housing in Swindon. Features like level access, off-road parking, fully-adapted wet rooms, and wheelchair-friendly layouts mean these homes will allow residents to live independently and comfortably in their community.

Built with the latest energy-saving technology including air source heat pumps, solar panels, and MVHR systems the homes will also help residents save on energy costs while reducing their environmental impact. Swindon Borough Council remains committed to providing housing that truly makes a difference, creating sustainable, accessible living as this will help achieve its long-term missions to build a fairer, better and greener Swindon.

Councillor Janine Howarth, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “The work to build new fully-adapted bungalows in Moredon and Walcot is about creating homes that empower residents to live fully and independently. These bungalows are designed with purpose to meet not only the physical needs of those with disabilities or requiring live-in care but also to enrich their quality of life within our community.

“With sustainable technologies like solar panels and advanced ventilation, we’re also tackling environmental goals head-on, making these homes as kind to the planet as they are to the residents. This project embodies our vision for a Fairer, Better and Greener Swindon, where everyone has the foundation to thrive, and I can’t wait to see these homes become a vital part of our neighbourhoods in the next year.”
