A huge congratulations to one of our school nurses, Julie Conlen, for winning an award this week for helping save the life of a student at a local school.

Earlier this year, Julie played a key role in assisting with a pupil’s medical emergency in the school. The pupil was taken to hospital and recovered but without Julie’s urgent reaction, excellent medical knowledge and amazing calm attitude the story could have been different.
While Julie was a finalist in the Children and Young Peoples Award, part of the NHS England South West Community & Primary Care Nursing Awards, she won big when it came to the Judges Choice Award for her excellent service to children and young people.
Julie said: “I’m honoured to have received the Judges' Choice Award at the NHS England South West Community & Primary Care Nursing Awards.
“This recognition was a result of a collaborative effort between myself and the dedicated school staff, and I am proud to have contributed to managing the medical emergency.
“School nurses have built strong partnerships across many Swindon schools, and this award highlights the strength and importance of these relationships.”
Councillor Jim Robbins, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: “What Julie did is nothing short of amazing.
“I’m so proud to have Julie and so many other staff like her working in our schools and changing lives every single day.
“A massive thank you to Julie for her hard work and live-saving skills and a big congratulations for her award.”
