Nine locations will benefit from the essential resurfacing, which is taking place over the summer holidays to minimise disruption to local residents and road users.
The improvement work forms part of Swindon Borough Council’s annual major and minor road resurfacing programme, which will see just over £4m invested to fix deteriorating road surfaces across the Borough.
Earlier this month, both Tadpole Lane and Thamesdown Drive were repaired and the following roads will be resurfaced over the coming weeks:
- Hook Street (26-27 July)
- Inverary Road, Wroughton (29-31 July)
- Ferndale Road (1-2 August)
- Gooch Street (5-7 August)
- Huntley Close, Walcot (8 August)
- Markham Close, Walcot (8 August)
- Dawlish Road, Park North (9 August)
- Shakespeare Path, Stratton (12 August)
- Boscombe Road, Moredon (13 August)
Hook Street, Inverary Road and Ferndale Road will be the first roads to benefit from the resurfacing and the work is estimated to take two days to complete.
In order to complete the resurfacing as quickly as possible, the roads will be closed between 8am and 6pm each day.
Access will be maintained for local residents and diversions will be in place for other motorists. Letters are also being sent to local residents informing them of the work.
The additional six sites will also form part of the resurfacing programme, with works taking place throughout August utilising day-time closures.
Residents and motorists are advised to check the Council’s website for full details and up-to-date information.
Councillor Chris Watts, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “We have a long list of roads which are in need of repair across Swindon and these ones are on our priority list and have been identified by our inspectors as being in really poor condition.
“A lack of investment over the years means there are many more roads that require our attention, but we only have so much capital funding to carry out this work and we have to manage this carefully to keep the Borough’s roads safe and in as good a condition as we can for local residents.
“We have planned this work to coincide with the summer holidays to minimise inconvenience, but we would just ask those directly affected to bear with us while we carry out these essential repairs over the coming weeks.”
