Children Missing Education (CME)

A Child Missing Education (CME) refers to a child of compulsory school age who is not:

  • registered at a school
  • receiving an appropriate education through other means, such as home education or alternative provisions

This can occur for various reasons and is a concern because it may affect the child’s development, learning and future opportunities.

How CME cases are investigated

The School Attendance Support Team investigates cases of children reported as missing education to ascertain their whereabouts and ensure they receive appropriate educational support.

How to report a CME

If you have concerns about a child who may not be receiving an education to which they are entitled, for example if they are not on a school roll or being home educated, email cme@swindon.gov.uk for further advice and guidance.
