Care experienced young people: Sexuality
Sex is a natural part of growing older. It’s important if you are engaging in sexual relationships that they are safe, consensual, and fun.
If you need help with anything or are unsure which service you need, speak to your Pathway Advisor (PA) or anyone in the Positive Futures Team.
What if I have some questions about my sexuality?
Everyone is attracted to different kinds of people and this can be either of the opposite sex, the same sex, both, variations in between and/or no one!
Some people realise they are gay, lesbian, bisexual, Transgender and/or Queer (LGBTQ+) at an early age, while others may not know until later in life. Being LGBTQ+ isn’t a choice, it’s the way someone feels inside and is natural.
For some people coming to terms with the fact that they might be attracted to someone of the same sex can be very difficult. Some people may feel like their body doesn’t match the gender they are. Others may feel absolutely no inclination to have sex or romantic relationships at all. All of these feelings are okay.
If you feel any of these feelings remember that there are plenty of people you can talk to who can help.
The following services and projects are especially for young people who identify as LGBTQ+ or who are exploring their sexuality:
- Out of the Can is a young person led LGBTQ+ action youth group for young people between 13 and 19 years old
- Childline provide information and support on sexuality and sexual orientation
