Swindon youth council
Swindon Youth Council (SYC) is an inclusive space that represents and values a diverse group of voices with different experiences, opinions and thoughts, working together to make Swindon a great place for young people.
Views are heard, listened to and acted upon by the local authority, providers of services for young people and other organisations.
It is a place to meet with decision makers (Directors, Councillors and MPs) where you feel empowered to influence the decisions that affect lives.
Members are 13 to 18 years old and come from different schools, groups and jobs.
Becoming a member
Joining SYC provides the opportunities to:
- develop new skills
- make new friends somewhere safe
- feedback to local Councillors and MPs about issues that matter to you
- feel confident to challenge and influence issues that matter to you
- be empowered to make positive changes to your life and your community
- become a decision-maker, leader, volunteer and campaigner
- attend national youth council campaigns
- gain confidence and learn together
Members will have the opportunity to develop skills in reading reports, carrying out campaigns and sit on the Youth Shadow Board in Swindon where you can challenge ideas and raise questions.
Skills required
To become a member of SYC, you should be:
- interested in making a difference to their life, the lives of other young people and the community in Swindon
- passionate about issues affecting young people
- willing to listen and consult on work
- able to voice opinions and represent the views of others without worry of judgment
