Health visitor services
Health visitors encourage, empower and support parents, guardians and carers to ensure the healthy development of their children.
They work directly with parents and local communities to provide information and guidance to make the best choices about their options for a healthy lifestyle. They also deliver a range of evidence based enhanced services when other needs are identified and assessed.
The health visiting service is provided by a mixed team of health visitors, community staff nurses and early years family practitioners who work directly with parents and local communities.
They work in partnership with GPs, other health professionals and in collaboration with other agencies such as local authority children’s services and early year’s children’s services.
The health visiting service is offered at the following stages:
- After 28 weeks of pregnancy for antenatal visits
- 10 to 14 days after birth for new baby review
- At 6 to 8 weeks of age for 6 to 8 week review
- At 9 to 12 months of age for 1 year review
- At 24 to 30 months of age for 2 year review
