Short breaks
Short breaks statement
Swindon’s Short Breaks Statement is for families with a child or young person with a disability living in Swindon. It sets out the criteria for accessing short breaks and the provisions available.
Our vision
The Council wants every child and young person who lives in Swindon to be:
- safe from harm and abuse
- able to reach their full potential and develop skills for life
- enjoying healthy lifestyles
- happy and active members of the community
We recognise that all children and young people, whether they have additional or complex needs or not, should be supported to aspire to a life without stigma where they are supported to become as independent as they can be.
Short breaks, and other services, play a key role. They help us achieve our vision for children and young people with disabilities in Swindon.
Statement
The statement, released in February 2025, considers feedback from a public consultation delivered in 2023/24. It outlines our aspirations for delivery of a short breaks offer that should become fully realised in May 2025.
