Frequently asked questions: Synergy portal for parents and young people

The Synergy portal is a secure online resource provided by Swindon Borough Council that enables parents, carers, young people and some internal children's service professionals working with a child or young person to register and then provide information to the SEND service (in relation to SEND) about a child or young person.

  • Parents and carers
  • A young person who is old enough to submit a request or have oversight of their education, health and care plan
  • Some internal children service professionals working with a child or young person. These currently include:
    • Education settings
    • Educational Psychologists
    • Advisory teachers
    • Education Welfare services
    • School admissions

Processionals who cannot currently access the Synergy portal are:

  • NHS services
  • Social Care
  • Other external services

Synergy are developing their professional portal function and this will be rolled out in the near future.

You can:

  • request an Education Health and Care needs assessment (EHCNA)
  • check the current status and track progress of an Education, Health and Care plan assessment
  • view copies of the education, health and care plan (EHCP)
  • view copies of annual reviews

If you already have a Synergy account:

  • Sign in to Synergy using your existing log in details
  • Go to the Synergy Homepage
  • Go to SEND forms
  • You will be able to continue to submit any Education Health and Care Needs Assessments request using an online form or through the 'contact us' button, which will provide you with a direct email to contact the SEND service on SENDservice@swindon.gov.uk
  • You are also able to send us any other relevant reports or information, such as parental preferences and parental views, using the 'contact us' function.

If you do not have a Synergy account:

The portal will provide opportunities to improve processes across education, health and social care with parents and carers and young people, offering greater co-production. Parents and carers will have greater flexibility to have control over how and when they submit information in support of their child’s request and will be provided with regular updates on how things are progressing.

No. Once it has been enabled, the SEND tile will appear in existing accounts.

It is one account per family and you can add multiple children within the family account.

New assessments information and children and young people assessments and EHCPs.

The SEND service has access to your child’s or children’s information. The SEND service can control which portal users, for example, professionals, other organisations and parents and carers, see the SEND information about the child or young person. The SEND service records and adds details to the child or young person’s record, including any professional’s advice that has been requested.

Each parent or carer of the child or young person, and any professionals involved, require authentication. Estranged parents may not be granted access or given only limited access. Required authentication is decided upon on a case by case basis. The level of access granted will depend on how much information can be seen.

The SEND service does not setup user accounts and set access levels for any users. If you do have any access queries, please email contact us at SENDservice@swindon.gov.uk.

If you forget your password, please click on 'request token', wait for a token which will be sent to the email address the account is linked to. Copy the token code. Then go back to the portal click 'I have a token', paste the token in and then select rest password. You can then input a new password.

If you continue to have problems accessing your account, email SENDService@swindon.gov.uk. Please include the email address details registered for the Synergy portal. This will make it easier for us to find your account.
