What is Shared Lives?
The Shared Lives service aims to provide care, support and accommodation to adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health problems.
The service supports Shared Lives carers to offer a supportive home in a family-based environment to individuals based upon unique experiences and interests to match the individuals support needs.
Within this service we prioritise to promote dignity, respect, independence and links within the local community.
The service is different to managed care homes because the service user usually lives in the Shared Lives carer’s home. Shared Lives homes can have a maximum of three service users living there at any time.
Shared Lives carers come from a wide range of backgrounds and all have different family circumstances. Some carers have partners and some are single. This diversity is what makes the service so successful.
The Shared Lives service is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Our Shared Lives carers are self employed and are recruited, trained and supported by the service to offer placements on behalf of Swindon Borough Council.
