Volunteering
Live Well Swindon volunteers contribute valuable time and skills to our volunteering projects which focus on local residents who don't have the benefit of family or friends around to support them.
What you can expect
If you volunteer with Live Well Swindon, we are committed to making sure you feel part of the team. Your role will be clear from the beginning and you will be continuously supported through training and supervision. We also run events and activities to celebrate and thank you, our volunteers, for your time and contribution.
Your support in our volunteer projects will have a positive and lasting impact on the individuals and communities you support and can also support your own personal growth.
The following video demonstrates the power of volunteering:
Each application is assessed for suitability. Once your application has been received, a member of our volunteering team will be in touch to discuss your application further.
Live Well Swindon offers many flexible volunteering opportunities, including:
- Swindon Circles which is a valuable befriending scheme developed to help alleviate loneliness and improve the wellbeing of our most isolated residents. Volunteers are matched with a local resident to offer companionship either in-person or through telephone befriending.
- Local Heroes which is a flexible way of volunteering to meet the needs of people who experience loneliness and/or isolation and have no other means of support. Volunteers give small amounts of time to people who may need one off assistance, on an ad-hoc basis to complete small practical tasks. This might be some shopping, light gardening or walking a dog.
- Forget Me Not Cakes is where volunteer bakers provide birthday cakes for isolated Swindon residents who normally have no-one to celebrate their birthday with or could do with a bit of extra support and positivity
- Live Well Knit Well is where volunteers make hand-crafted items for residents, from knitting squares to making blankets for the homeless, to hats and scarves, gloves and baby clothes
- Swindon Cancer Champions which is a project that focuses on increasing early diagnosis of cancer by improving the uptake of the bowel, breast and cervical cancer screening programmes. The project plays an important role in sharing vital messages about the screening programmes and promoting general cancer awareness.
- Activators which is a project where volunteers support the Live Well Swindon team in the community
