Designated healthcare services for children we care for
The Children Looked After health service provides specialist support to meet the physical and emotional health needs of children in care, from birth to 18 years old.
A team of specialist nurses and a mental health outreach worker, based at the Saltway Centre in Swindon, works alongside:
- paediatricians from Great Western Hospital
- the 0-19 public health team
- social workers
Together, they ensure children in care receive the right healthcare, assessments and ongoing support to achieve the best possible health outcomes.
Support for care-experienced young people
For young people over 18, the service provides signposting and guidance to help them access the most suitable health services.
Additionally, the team offers training for foster carers, helping them build stronger relationships with children and support their health and well-being.
Who can access this service?
All children and young people in Swindon Borough Council’s care, regardless of where they live, are automatically eligible for this support, which includes:
- regular health assessments
- personalised health care plans
