Apply for a bus stop suspension
If a company wishes to carry out works on the highway, that will affect the setting down at bus stop(s), a bus stop suspension application must be made.
How long will the application take?
A minimum of five working days’ notice is required.
We can process the application in a shorter time than five days if required however, you will need to apply for the application and then email the Network Coordination team at networkcoordination@swindon.gov.uk stating the reference number of the application, and when you will require the service.
How much will the application cost?
- £175 for five or more days’ notice period
- £250 if less than five days’ notice period (Express License)
Please note: The application fee is non-refundable.
If we find that the works are still on-going when we attend a site to remove public notice(s), after the agreement period, we will charge you the Express License rate until the works are completed.
How to apply
You can apply to suspend a bus stop using our online form below.
During your application, you will be asked to upload:
- your permit number
- the suspension start date and end date
- the bus stop identification number (ID)
- the street name
- the name of the company undertaking the works
- the purchase order number or card payment details

What you will need to do before the event is to take place
You will need to notify all residents, businesses, public buildings and authorities that will be affected by the bus stop suspension. This includes writing a letter to advise them of the suspension and of their access rights. You should also give them supervisor contact details.
