Ask for Angela
‘Ask for Angela’ is a national scheme supported by bars, clubs, other licensed premises and events across Swindon and Wiltshire in conjunction with Swindon Borough Council, Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire Council.
The initiative allows people who feel unsafe, vulnerable or threatened to ask for help by approaching venue staff and using the “Angela” code word.
This codeword will indicate to staff that the customer requires help with their situation and a trained member of staff can then assist them in accessing the discreet help they need. This might be through being reunited with a friend, being escorted to a licensed vehicle or by calling the venue security or police.
Venues that support ‘Ask for Angela’ have been given Welfare and Vulnerability Engagement (WAVE) training, giving staff and those working in licensed premises the toolkit to help customers who may be in an unsafe situation.
Venues not currently supporting the ‘Ask for Angela’ initiative who would like to receive WAVE training, can contact the Licensing team.
