Homelessness

Domestic abuse and homelessness

You are classed as being homeless if you are at risk of domestic abuse in your home, and cannot stay there.

If you feel you are in immediate danger, call the Police on 999.

If you are housed and feeling unsafe due to domestic abuse, we will still be able to offer you advice, assistance and accommodation. We must also provide emergency accommodation if you need it.

You can apply to any local authority, you will not be referred back to the area where the abuse took place.

We will not contact or approach your abuser.

We have a dedicated team to help you in our Housing Options department. You can contact us for support and assistance in accessing emergency accommodation, at hoptions@swindon.gov.uk or by calling us on 01793 445503.

Further advice

If you don't want to talk to us there are domestic abuse organisations who have specialist trained advisors. They can support and guide your application if you need emergency housing.

For advice on these and other services available, see our help and advice page.
