Supported housing
Supported housing helps vulnerable people live independently. We provide support in either:
- supported housing schemes
- people’s own homes
You can view the directory for supported housing available in Swindon.
We support:
- ex-offenders
- homeless families
- victims of domestic abuse
- people with a substance misuse problem
- people with learning disabilities
- people with mental health problems
- people with physical disabilities and sensory impairments
- rough sleepers
- single people with support needs
- teenage parents
- vulnerable young people
In some cases supported housing may offer transitional help to support people back into independence.
Living independently means that service-users are able to:
- pay for their accommodation (themselves or with benefits)
- fulfil other responsibilities inherent in a tenancy or owner-occupation
- know how to ensure that they get all the necessary services into their accommodation (e.g. utilities)
- know how to deal with repairs and/or improvements to the property
- be able to keep their accommodation warm, safe, and comfortable
- be able to look after themselves with the addition of appropriate care or support services when necessary
- get on with their neighbours
- access community services when needed
- not feel trapped or isolated in the accommodation to the point where they no longer wish to live there
