Dementia
If you're concerned about your own or someone else's memory
If you are worried about yourself, a family member or friend, you should make an appointment to see your GP.
The earlier you seek help, the sooner you can get information, advice and support.
Your GP will carry out a brief assessment of memory and thinking. Based on the outcome of this test, they may refer you to a specialist memory assessment service.
In Swindon, memory assessment services are provided by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.
Different types of dementia
The five most common types are:
- Alzheimer's disease (AD)
- Vascular dementia
- Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB)
- Frontotemporal dementia (FTD)
- Mixed dementia
Young-onset dementia
Younger people suffering with dementia may face very different issues to those faced by older people.
