Come and experience the Dream at STEAM as Swindon Opera Collective and the Corisande Chorale give life to Edward Elgar's iconic oratorio, “The Dream of Gerontius”, with full orchestra and choir.

Composed in 1900, "The Dream of Gerontius" is a masterpiece of English music, exploring themes of mortality, faith and redemption. This profound and moving work is considered one of Elgar's greatest achievements and its beauty and emotional depth continue to inspire audiences to this day.

Come and hear the score brought to life by our talented soloists, Robert Felstead (tenor), Charlie Morris (baritone) and Aino Konkka (soprano), who will be accompanied by the Corisande Chorale and full orchestra, expertly sourced and conducted by Diana Bickley.

Ample parking is available near the Steam Museum. A selection of wine, coffee, tea and squash will be available prior to the event. Additionally, there are several restaurants and cafes within walking distance of the museum.

The Great Hall is fully accessible, with wheelchair ramps and accessible seating.

The STEAM Museum of the Great Western Railway provides a unique and atmospheric setting for this special event, as Elgar often drew inspiration from the industrial landscape of his time. The railway's majestic trains, which once connected the West Country to the rest of Britain, evoke the same sense of grandeur and drama found in many of Elgar’s works. By celebrating the GWR and Elgar's music together, we honour the enduring spirit of British ingenuity and creativity.
