Uturn is a specialist service that provides support, help and guidance to young people (and their families) who have alcohol and/or drug problems. The service encompasses all illicit substances, solvents and prescribed medication but excludes the use of tobacco.
Talking to someone about alcohol and drugs can be difficult. We will deal with the information you give us carefully and sensitively, respecting your right to privacy.
- What is a Privacy Notice?

A Privacy Notice is a statement issued by an organisation which explains how personal and confidential data about individuals is collected, used and shared.
- Who is collecting and using your personal data?

No information you give us will be shared with anyone outside this service without your written permission unless you are at working with Children’s Services or at serious risk of harm. We will let you know if we have to pass information on to other agencies and who those agencies are.
- Your personal data – what is it?

Personal data relates to a living individual who can be identified from that data. Identification can be by the information alone or in conjunction with any other information in the data controller’s possession or likely to come into such possession. The processing of data is governed by the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (the “GDPR”).

Uturn will collect your:
- name and date of birth
- address
- gender
- ethnicity
- physical or mental health conditions
- sexual health
- religious/ other beliefs
- information relating to your family and lifestyle

Uturn store the files digitally on computers.
- Why do we need your personal information?

Wee need your personal information to:
- understand your situation and to help us to support you in the best way we can
- keep a record of when we see you and when we speak to other people about you
- help keep you safe
- find ways of improving our service
- How the law allows us to use your information?

The new data protection law (the GDPR) states that we must only use your personal data for tasks in the public interest and/or tasks relating to the work we do with you.
- Who do we share your information with?

No information you give us will be shared with anyone outside this service without your written permission unless you are at working with Children’s Services or at serious risk of harm. We will let you know if we have to pass information on to other agencies and who those agencies are.
Your information will be recorded in a file and may be shared between the members of this team. Communication within the team is necessary to be able to provide you with a good, safe service. We also share some information about you with the NDTMS. This is a database used to collect information on drug and alcohol treatment provision. It is managed nationally by the Public Health England (PHE), the NHS body responsible for collecting drug and alcohol data and for overseeing drug and alcohol misuse treatment in England.
There are some circumstances where we have a duty to share information about you without your knowledge or consent. These are if:
- you or others are at risk of serious harm
- you pose a risk of serious harm to others
- you become a missing person
- we are ordered by the Courts to give information about your contact with us
- How do we protect your information?

We take the security of your personal data seriously. We have internal policies and controls in place to ensure that your personal data is not lost, accidentally destroyed, misused or disclosed, and is not accessed except by our employees in the proper performance of their duties.
- How long do we keep your personal information?

As a result of the Historical Enquiry into Child Sexual Abuse we have been instructed to keep all information held about you with no end date. However, this may change and if it does we will tell you.
- What you can do with your information?

The law says you have the right to see the information we hold about you.

You have the right to object to PHE holding personal information about you. This will not affect the service that you receive. More information can be provided on request.
