Child sexual exploitation
Child sexual exploitation (CSE) is a form of child abuse that puts young people at serious risk of harm. It can have a devastating impact on their physical, emotional and psychological well-being.
Recognising the signs
CSE can be difficult to spot, but some common warning signs include:
- changes in behaviour, such as becoming withdrawn or secretive
- drug or alcohol misuse
- going missing from home or school
- relationships with controlling or older individuals
- unexplained gifts, money, or new possessions
For more information on recognising and preventing CSE, visit the Swindon Safeguarding Partnership website for:
- advice for parents and carers
- guidance for professionals and volunteers
- support for children and young people
A victim's perspective of CSE
Filmed by West Yorkshire Police, Emma's Story is part of the 'Know the Signs' campaign on CSE. The film offers a victim's perspective of CSE and highlights the warning signs for those who may be at risk.
