Swindon Borough Council set to celebrate staff excellence
An award-winning school, the organisers of Radio 1’s Big Weekend and a youth counselling service are just some of the nominees hoping to have their achievements trumpeted by Swindon Borough Council next week.
A total of 67 awards will be handed out to individuals and teams at the council’s annual Excellence Awards ceremony on Monday, 15 March in recognition of the pivotal roles they played in delivering council services over the past year.
The winners, who were nominated by the public and fellow members of staff, will receive certificates and trophies at the ceremony, which is being held at the Wyvern Theatre.
The Excellence Awards were launched three years ago to celebrate the achievements of Swindon Borough Council staff who have raised standards and helped make the council one of the fastest improving authorities in the country.
School catering staff, street wardens and refuse collectors are among the different employees who have been nominated in the past.
The awards are a chance to say thank you to employees who have gone the extra mile through their work.
This year four extra awards have been added – the Local Area Agreement Award, Equalities and Diversity Team Award, Swindon Public Services Apprentice of the Year and School of the Year.
Cllr Keith Williams, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Corporate Services, said: “The Excellence Awards are a celebration of all the great work that goes on across many departments within the council.
“The council has shown itself to be one of the most improved in the country, but that success would not be possible without the efforts of staff and I congratulate everyone who has been nominated for an award.”
